Local Anesthetic Allergy

History of drug allergy to local anesthetics listed below often prevents patients from seeing the dentist. Due to this history, the dentist may recommend general anesthesia. This is much more risky and expensive, even for minor dental surgeries. This may also be the case for minor surgical procedures that could be performed with local anesthetic and light sedation.

At Family Asthma and Allergy Center, we can test and find for you an alternative local anesthetic that does not cross-react with the one you had a reaction with. In the very rare event that you are allergic to all of them, we can recommend a schedule of pre-treatment that reduces your risk of a serious reaction.

We will be happy to review your history of reaction and find a safe alternative local anesthetic.
