Our Practitioners
Tarun M. Kumar MD
Dr. Tarun M. Kumar did his internship and residency at Charleston Area Medical Center, Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx and at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. He then joined the Asthma & Allergy Center in Charleston, a leading referral center for Asthma and Allergic diseases in the area, caring for more than 15,000 active patients and seeing about 3000 new patients a year. He worked as a full-time staff physician covering multiple office locations. Dr. Kumar is Board Certified in Family Medicine with focused training in Allergy, Immunology and Pulmonary Medicine. He provides patients with up to date evidence based care per current medical guidelines formulated by the American Academy of Asthma Allergy and Immunology as well as the American College of Asthma Allergy & Immunology. Dr.Kumar is on the medical staff at the Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City, CA and at the Washington Hospital in Fremont, CA. His background with pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients allows him to care for a broad and diverse patient population. As for his approach to patients, he believes that, besides being a good and knowledgeable clinician, humane qualities of Compassion, Empathy, Humility and Trust, combined with Patient Education and Shared Decision Making are the keys to successful patient outcomes. His areas of interest include adult and pediatric asthma and treatment of environmental allergies. Dr. Kumar and the other physicians at the Family Asthma & Allergy Center are at your service and are accepting new patients.
Melissa Thang, PA-C
Melissa received her bachelor’s degree in biology from University of California, Santa Cruz. Prior to becoming a Physician Assistant, she worked in Primary Care and Endocrinology as a medical assistant for nine years in the Bay Area. She completed her training and graduated with a Master of Science in Medicine from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego. She is a board-certified physician assistant who serves her community by delivering high-quality healthcare with compassion and empathy. She is excited to return to the Bay Area and join the provider team at Family Asthma and Allergy Center. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing pickleball, hiking, and dog sitting.
Chandra M. Kumar MD
Dr. Chandra M. Kumar did his Internship and Residency training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, and his Allergy training at Rush University Medical School and the University of Chicago. He is Board Certified in Allergy and Clinical Immunology as well as Pediatrics. He is a Clinical Associate Professor at the WV School of Medicine and has practiced at the various offices of the West Virginia Asthma & Allergy Centers Inc. Dr. Kumar has been on the Bureau of speakers on Asthma and Allergy for Merck, Schering, Glaxo and AstraZeneca. He has been involved in clinical research on effectiveness of asthma medications, especially inhaled steroids and combination drug therapy. Dr. Kumar, with his many decades of experience, is now available to see patients at the Family Asthma & Allergy Center.
